Further information

Azolla filiculoides often occurs in ponds, … in private gardens, where it is regularly introduced with other water plants. Azolla filiculoides was however recently found in 3 ponds situated in the open countryside, near the village of Bourscheid (10.7.2009, K.-G. Gessner; 30.7.2009, K.G. Gessner, Y. Krippel & P. Thommes) and can be considered as naturalized.

Asplenium x dolosum

Description

Asplenium × dolosum Milde is the hybrid between A. adiantum-nigrum × A. trichomanes ssp. trichomanes.

In fact, Lawalrée (in : Lawalrée A., 1951. – Les ptéridophytes du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg. Bull. Soc. roy. Bot. Belg. 83: 225-240.) describes a new taxon for Luxembourg, i.e. “X Asplenium Reichlingii Lawalrée hybr. nov.” (= A. adiantum-nigrum x A. trichomanes), discovered on the 13 June 1950 by Léopold Reichling in the Luxembourgish Ardennes; hybrid later known as Asplenium × dolosum. Unfortunately, the fern collected near the Moulin de Bourscheid turned out to be just a monstrous form of Asplenium trichomanes.

Asplenium trichomanes nothosubsp. staufferi

Description

Asplenium trichomanes subsp. pachyrachis can hybridise with subsp. quadrivalens, forming a vigorous plant with a more upright habit than subsp. pachyrachis and distinctly intermediate between the parents. It is known as Asplenium trichomanes L. nothossp. staufferi Lovis & Reichstein.

A rapid investigation of natural sandstone outcrops, buildings, walls, … showed that Asplenium trichomanes nothossp. staufferi is easily found in areas where the two parents are present and grows on natural rocks as well as on man-made walls. At present date, 23 sites in 17 square kilometres are known.

The results of the investigation and the present distribution and status in Luxembourg can be found in:
