Azolla filiculoides often occurs in ponds, … in private gardens, where it is regularly introduced with other water plants. Azolla filiculoides was however recently found in 3 ponds situated in the open countryside, near the village of Bourscheid (10.7.2009, K.-G. Gessner; 30.7.2009, K.G. Gessner, Y. Krippel & P. Thommes) and can be considered as naturalized.
